Frequently asked questions

The tutor collective is for any local tutor, music teacher or other children's activity provider who meets delivers their services entirely or predominately to children from 0-18 years old, and is looking to develop themselves personally, grow their business and benefit from a like-minded community. 

If you're not sure if the group is right for you, please send us an email at thetutorcollectivelondon@gmail.com with some details about you and your business and we'll let you know. Most businesses are welcome to attend up to two meetings to get a feel for the group even if you don't yet meet our minimum criteria. 

You can see a list of our current members on our members page. If you think your business compliments the others in the group, it probably does! 

If you're not sure if the group is right for you, please send us an email at thetutorcollectivelondon@gmail.com with some details about you and your business and we'll let you know if your business is a good fit for the group. If a member is operating in the same category in a similar nearby location, this may mean that you can't join for now. We'll look at this as part of the application process if you'd like to apply for membership. In any case, you'll be able to attend up to one meeting per time, providing you meet our minimum criteria. 

No. If you prefer, as long as your business is a suitable fit for the group, you're welcome to continue attending on a 'pay-as-you-go' basis, though there are limitations  and this does mean you won't enjoy all the benefits our members receive.

You’ll become part of a supportive group of tutors and child-focused business owners who understand the realities of running a business in this space. It’s a chance to learn from each other, hear different perspectives and pick up ideas you might never have considered on your own. Often, you don’t know what you don’t know until you’re in the room.

Alongside this, members often experience genuine business growth through referrals and recommendations, as relationships build over time. Our guest speakers also bring practical insights across areas like marketing, finance and running a business more effectively.

There’s also a real sense of community. From regular meetings to more informal moments like Christmas lunches, it’s about building relationships with people you enjoy spending time with, not just networking for the sake of it.

Many members find it keeps them motivated, inspired and thinking more broadly about their business.

Yes, there is a small one-off fee of £25 for Basic and Standard Membership, or £50 for Premium Membership, to cover the membership meeting and onboarding, including being added to our relevant WhatsApp groups and website, if applicable. 

Yes, a very small one of £1.50, £2.50 or £5 per week, depending on your preferred membership option, but this won't apply until after your second meeting.

The Tutor Collective costs £52, £104 or £208 per year to join, depending on your membership level, plus £13 or £20 per meeting for drinks only or brunch respectively. 

Other local groups to consider include:

• BNI - £899 + VAT per year + £20 per meeting (breakfast included)
• Businesswomen ULTD - £19.80 including VAT per meeting with no membership fee  (drinks only)
• POP Connect - £215 +  VAT per year + £30 + VAT per meeting
• SB Alliance - from £150 per year + £45 per meeting 
• Watford & West Herts Chamber of Commerce - from £235 per year. Many events are offered free off charge to members.

The Tutor Collective is unique in that we specifically bring together child-focused businesses. Because of this, we're very strict on ensuring that even if a business serves adults too, it is predominately aimed at children. Otherwise, we become just like BNI or any other general networking group.

We also want to make sure you have  good reputation for what you do so that members can trust in recommending you, and that you have the capacity to take on the expected number of clients within your area of exclusivity, depending on membership level.

Please get in touch at thetutorcollectivelondon@gmail.com with some more details about you and your business. If your business would be a good fit but you're in the early stages and on track to meet our minimum requirements in the future, you're welcome to attend up to 2 meetings now to get a feel for the group and you can always apply for membership once you're ready.  

The requirements listed on the Membership page are for guidance. However, if you apply for membership, we will look at your business more holistically before making a decision.  

All regular meetings take place The Aerodrome Café, Hogg Lane, Elstree, WD6 3AW from 10am-12pm.

Regular meetings currently cost £22 to attend including brunch or £14 just for drinks, payable in advance for members and / or first or second time visitors. 

If you've attended a couple of meetings before but would prefer to continue on a 'pay-as-you-go', this is charged at £35 including brunch or £25 just for drinks.

• If you'd like to cancel your ticket more than 5-days before the event, you may do so directly with Ticket Tailor (the ticketing platform we use), minus their booking and transaction fees at roughly £1 per ticket. 
  Click 'Manage Tickets' in your confirmation email > Manage Order >  Cancel Order
• Tickets are non-refundable if less than 5-days' notice is given before the event. However, tickets are transferable, providing the attendee is in a suitable business. Please let us know if you cannot attend, or if another person will come in your place, so that we  may offer a space to someone on our waiting list. 

• 09:15am: Pre-event open networking
• 10am: Meeting officially starts
• 10:50am: Guest speaker / group discussion
• 11:40am – Brunch and open networking
• 12pm: Event ends

This varies from meeting to meeting, but we usually have 10-20 attendees. 

No. Unlike BNI and some other organisations, there is no pressure whatsoever to bring referrals or visitors to the group. This is purely organic based networking and whilst we'd love it if you gave business to our members, you should only do so if and when you feel comfortable to. 

We cover a range of topics from branding and marketing to employment law and accounting; anything that feel members would benefit from. We plan most of the guest speakers in advance for the academic year so you can look at out 'Events' page to see which topics most interest you.
